FAIRVIEW HIGH SCHOOL TURNS 50
Class of 1974 kicks off commemoration with reunion
Boulder, Colo.--A 36-year high school reunion is far from typical but Fairview's class of 1974 jumped at the opportunity to reunite this summer in celebration of the school's 50th birthday and for good reason--to acknowledge their unique status in the school's history. The 554 graduates of this class were the first to attend all three years of high school at Fairview's current 1515 Greenbriar Blvd. location.
"The class of 1974 is proud to hold this place of honor," says Karen MacKenzie Johnson, reunion planner. "The distinction has always been a uniting factor for our class and I look forward to sharing memories of our years there at the August reunion."

Background
The school's current building sits high on a hill overlooking Boulder and is now a familiar landmark. It was partially under construction when its doors opened to students in mid-September 1971- two weeks past Boulder Valley School District's official first day of school. The administrative offices and most of the academic classrooms were finished but the section of the school housing the gym, art and music rooms were incomplete. Fairview took a creative approach to this dilemma and offered canoeing on nearby Viele Lake, bowling at Thunderbird Lanes and ice-skating at a local indoor rink for physical education. In early 1972, student facilities in the remainder of the building opened.
The school's state-of-the art design was touted nationally and featured innovative open classrooms and a colorful, multi-level colorful interior offsetting the building's dramatic but stark exterior. The demand for tours was high and a small group of uniformed students called pages were trained as ambassadors to showcase the school's new structure and explain the recently implemented block class schedules to visitors.
Prior to moving to its current location, Fairview was located at 6096 Baseline Road. The original building housing Fairview became the home of the newly formed Nevin Platt Junior High School (now Nevin Platt Middle School).
